In the production of paints, coatings, and plastics, mineral fillers as well as inorganic pigments (like TiO2) are incorporated into a solution. To ensure they bond well and do not settle to the bottom, their surface is treated with silanes. The treated pigments can be better integrated into the matrix, resulting in a stable and homogeneous solution as well as improved color distribution. Silanes like DYNASYLAN® also ensure that the substances remain permanently bonded to the emulsion or dispersion without separating over time.
The use of DYNASYLAN® in pigment treatment offers additional advantages. The surface modification of pigments allows for higher filler content in the mixture. This increases filler load and improves viscosity. From a sustainability perspective, these effects are also beneficial: improved viscosity simplifies processing, protects equipment, and reduces energy consumption during production.
