PERACLEAN® 40 is a highly effective chlorine-free oxidizing agent, which is based on peracetic acid and features such unique properties as high oxidative power, selective reactions at non-radical pathways as well as safe and convenient handling.
PERACLEAN® 40 can be used as an oxidizing agent by many chemical reactions, such as epoxidation of olefins, oxidation of thioethers to sulfoxides or sulfones, oxidation of tertial amines to amine oxides, oxidation of pyridines to pyridine oxides or Baeyer-Villiger oxidation of acylbenzenes to O-acylphenols. Examples of an industrial use of PERACLEAN® 40 are the preparation of precursors for fragrances and antibiotics. Since PERACLEAN® 40 is a chlorine-free oxidizing agent, the probability for formation of halogenated side-products decreases dramatically. The excess of PERACLEAN® 40, which might be present in the waste water, decomposes into the environmentally harmless residues water, oxygen and acetic acid.
Chemical synthesis
Peracetic acid has to be stored in original containers or tank farms in an ambient condition protected from the direct sun irradiation area. It is important to keep peracetic acid protected from all types of contamination and away from of combustible/ oxidizable materials. Containers should be stored unopened and in an upright position.

When stored properly in the originally sealed HDPE packaging, the shelf life of the product is 12 months from the date of production.
